The Bee Line started off as an experiment. I wanted to write something in the first person, so I chose a real life situation and added my own story to it. Post WWII was not just a harrowing time for a lot of people, but also a time of regret for others. As with all wars, not all of the soldiers returned and my character loses her father to the war and her mother because of her missing father. Edith Fricker hates her mother and doesn’t see much of a future for herself. Not only does she have to cope with becoming a war orphan, she also has to cope with growing up. Edith moves from the crowded city to the country side with her younger sister and along the way encounters new friendships and lessons in life.
